Lou Gehrig Burnett is a seasoned veteran of national and local politics. For 27 years, he worked as a Congressional aide on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.  He served 11 years as press secretary for U.S. Rep. F. Edward Hebert, D-LA, and 16 years as chief of staff for U.S. Rep. Jerry Huckaby, D-LA.

Upon retiring from the federal government in 1993, Burnett moved to Shreveport where he worked with the Bossier Press-Tribune and Bossier Post and wrote a political column which was carried by 14 newspapers in north Louisiana.

In 1997 and 1998, he served as executive assistant to Shreveport Mayor Bo Williams.

He has been with Forum News as a award-winning columnist since 1999, and now is the Senior Political Columnist.  He also publishes weekly the Fax-Net Update, which gives an interesting behind-the-scenes look at politics on the local, state and national level.

He is also a regular panelist on Comcast Cable's "Dateline Shreveport" television show, a frequent guest on Tom Pace's 'Talk of the Town' Radio Show on The Promise 90.7 FM and on the worldwide web at www.promisetalkradio.org, and is the political analyst for KSLA-TV, Channel 12 in Shreveport.  Burnett is also a contributing writer for The Bossier Press Tribune and various websites.

He is a frequent guest speaker for various Shreveport civic clubs and organizations.  Along with the late James Q. Wellborn and Forum and Fax-Net columnist Marty Carlson, he founded two decades ago the Media Lunch Bunch, a group of journalists who meet every Tuesday at Ralph & Kacoo's Restaurant in Bossier City.   It is often attended by officials, potential candidates and other dignitaries.

In 2002, Burnett's Forum column was awarded First Place for "Best Continuing Coverage of Governmental Issues" by the Louisiana Press Association. In 2005, he was honored with the award for "Best Regular Column." In 2012, his column received Honorable Mention for "Best Regular Column."
